Academic Orientation and Advisement
Entering Students
Before Classes Begin
In the Advisement Office, we generally do not meet with students until
after they have completed the
Admissions process
and have been accepted into the University. After acceptance, entering
students need to go through the
Advisement & Course Selection process
to identify appropriate courses and plan a realistic schedule. For
first-time students entering in a fall semester, advisement will occur
during one of several new student orientation programs called
Navigate Armstrong, scheduled throughout the spring and summer months.
Students who are entering directly from high school—or only a
year or two after high school graduation—should give serious
consideration to joining one of our
Freshman Learning Communities during
their initial Fall Semester enrollment to ease their transition into college.
Students who are older or who have been out of school for several years
may also want to contact the
Academic Assistance Program, to
ask about learning support courses, tutorial programs, study skills
information, and the
Academic Renewal option.
Questions about the
HOPE Scholarship or
other needs for financial support should be directed to the
Financial Aid Office.
Other Armstrong offices that may be of assistance to incoming students
include the offices for
Disability Services, the
Honors Program, and the
Office of Minority Affairs.
